Thirteen episodes made up the third season of the American criminal drama series The Sopranos, which debuted on HBO on March 4, 2001, for a two-hour slot and ended on May 20, 2001. August 27, 2002, saw the release of the third season on DVD in Region 1.
Season three centers on Tony’s connection with his kids, Anthony Jr., who is experiencing behavioral issues in high school, and Meadow, who is starting her first year at Columbia University. A rift develops between Tony and his ailing mother Livia. Uncle Junior is now dealing with health concerns after being released from prison.
James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano
Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano, a family man who loved ducks and worked in “waste management,” was a vicious New Jersey mob boss who made a lasting impression as one of the most wickedly interesting characters on television.
Before his breakthrough performance as Tony, for which he was nominated for three Emmys, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and one Golden Globe, the actor had been in the business for almost ten years. He had appeared in several small roles, including Angie (1994), costarring Aida Turturro, who would later play his sister Janice on The Sopranos.
Gandolfini served as an executive producer on several HBO movies and television shows after leaving Sopranos, such as Hemingway & Gellhorn and The Night Of. He kept playing a major role in mob dramas, such as the posthumously released The Drop in 2014 and Killing Them Softly in 2012.
In 2013, Gandolfini passed away suddenly following a heart attack. 51 was his age. From 1999 to 2002, the actor was wed to producer Marcy Wudarski, with whom he had a son named Michael. Later, in 2008, he married Deborah Lin, an actress, and the two of them had a daughter named Liliana.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Meadow Soprano
Sigler’s biggest role before taking on the part of the brilliant, sassy, and immensely privileged Meadow on the show was performing in a music video for Mariah Carey. She has starred in several movies since leaving The Sopranos, such as 2019’s Mob Town, and mostly in television shows, such as recurring parts on Entourage (playing herself), Ugly Betty, Guys with Kids, and most recently, Big Sky in 2021. IMDB states that she is currently working on multiple movies.
At the age of 20, Sigler received a multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. In a recent episode of PEOPLE’s podcast Me Becoming Mom, she talked candidly about how her diagnosis made her fear motherhood. “I started to have all these fears of, what if [my child] runs away and I can’t catch him?” she said.
Sigler married Cutter Dykstra in 2016, and the two of them had sons named Beau and Jack Adam. A.J. DiScala was her previous spouse from 2003 to 2005.
Robert Iler as A.J. Soprano
In the HBO series, Iler’s A.J. was a spoilt brat with an underlying anxiety illness who was constantly getting into trouble. Iler left the spotlight two years after the show concluded to pursue a career in professional poker in Las Vegas, but she did make a guest appearance on an episode of Law & Order.
“Since Sopranos, the only thing I’ve done is be called for jury service, which I didn’t want to do. thus twice, in a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2020, I did an episode of Law and Order to get out of jury duty,” he said. He also opened up about his prior struggles with addiction and substance misuse, saying that he had been sober for seven years at the time.
Together with YouTuber Kassem G, he and Sigler currently co-host the podcast Pajama Pants.

Michael Imperioli as Christopher Moltisanti
One of the most recognizable characters from the program was Imperioli’s swaggering, capricious Christopher. Imperioli played Spider in the film Goodfellas before taking on the role of Tony’s nephew and potential successor, for which he was nominated for two SAG Awards and an Emmy.
He has kept up his work in the decades thereafter, specializing in detective roles on television (he portrayed one in the series Life on Mars, Detroit 1-8-7, and Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector). In an episode of Ben Stiller’s Escape at Dannemora, he played former governor Andrew Cuomo. Most recently, he was the main character in an HBO White Lotus episode. In the 2021 television series The Many Saints of Newark, a prequel to Sopranos, he played Christopher again.
Along with former costar Steve Schirripa (who played Bobby Baccalieri), Imperioli co-hosts the Talking Sopranos podcast. The two co-wrote Woke Up This Morning: The Definitive Oral History of The Sopranos, which was published in 2021.
Steven Van Zandt as Silvio Dante
Silvio, a fellow member of Tony’s inner circle from Van Zandt, eventually rose to the position of consigliere, or advisor, for the crime leader. He has continued to pursue roles associated with the mafia; he appeared as a New York mob boss in the Norwegian-American series Lilyhammer (2012–2014) and in the 2019 film The Irishman (costarring Al Pacino, whom Silvio frequently impersonated).
Van Zandt’s most well-known role off-screen is that of “Little Steven,” the E Street Band guitarist for Bruce Springsteen. In 2021, he also released his memoir, Unrequited Infatuations.
